Walden University Programs in Social Work

Graduate Programs in Social Work

There are three schools within Walden University that offer degrees in social services and social work. The School of Counseling & Social Service, the School of Psychology, and the School of Public Policy & Administration all have relevant graduate programs, depending upon your area of interest. The social services professions have always had substantial focus on work in the public sector, which is why the field of public policy is relevant to the profession. There are Master of Social Work degrees that offer a specialization in public policy and public advocacy. The theme of social justice is central to every social work collegiate program, and social justice is inexorably tied to public policy and public services.

Walden University also offers a PhD program for social work and related areas of academic concentration. These degrees offer the ability to zero in on a particular scholarly focus and professional skill set that usually isn’t found in social work doctoral programs. There are some real advantages to an acute academic focus in the job market, which is what these degrees are designed for. They are career oriented, as opposed to the teaching and research orientation of more traditional PhD programs.
