The University of North Dakota entered the technical age when it began to offer a Masters in Social Work degree for those that already hold a bachelor's degree in the area. It continued its innovation with its recent addition of a program for those that do not have a bachelor's degree in social work. Students also take foundational classes in general practice, social work research methods, communities and organizations, treatment, task forces, and social policy, in addition to the class is required in the previous degree program.

The University of New England's online Masters in Social Work program gives students across the country the opportunity to why their MSW. While the school's campus is located in Maine, its virtual campus extends around the world and across the country.
